Grand Canyon or Bust ... or Snow?

So we head to the Grand Canyon's South Rim, which is pretty much on our way to my Sister's house, our first real destination.  We figured we would try to get a campsite inside the park, but if not, we had some leads on boondocking spots just outside the park, with recommendations to bring the RV into the park each day and use their transportation (did we mention how much we love our America the Beautiful annual pass?).

This seemed like a good plan, so off we went.  We came in from the east, and therefore checked out some vistas before reaching the actual village.  Weather was pretty overcast and a little chilly, but hey, maybe it would break.

The Grand Canyon is big!  277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, with depths up to a mile deep.  Unbelievable to see in person.   The Watch Tower is made to look old, but is built over a modern steel structure.  A little "Disney" at the GCNP ;-)  But it's cool inside and outside.

We continued toward Grand Canyon Village, stopping at some additional scenic views, but wanting to check if there were any available campsites, and dump our tanks and take on fresh water.  The crowds were pretty intense -- school vacation -- need to keep those whippersnappers in school!

As it turned out, the campgrounds were full, the weather kept deteriorating, and the forecast called for cold rain and/or 1-3" of snow.  Hey, we can get back in NH!  And it also shows the benefit of not having firm plans.  Now we can switch to Plan B!  Book it down to Flagstaff, AZ and stay at Camping World and get a needed part for the RV.
